Three amazing books in three days…now that’s how I like to read! It rained through most of the holiday weekend, which was fine with me. I had an overflowing bookshelf!
Anna’s protagonist photographer’s creative eye and simplified lifestyle inspires and delights as she leaves the familiar to find herself or reinvent herself, renews her career and her love life at the age of sixty. Beautifully written.
Wally chose to write from each family member’s point of view in first person. And he pulled it off stunningly. This complex and yes dysfunctional family with secrets hidden within half truths makes compelling reading as you rage, confront, and ultimately heal right along with them through the years. The Oh family may feel as familiar as your own by the final chapter.
A.J. Fikry is a bookshop owner who doesn’t like writers or most popular genres either. He’s a curmudgeon a reader can’t resist. Every booklover will be smitten by this quirky story. “We read to know we’re not alone. We read because we are alone. We read and we are not alone. We are not alone.” If you love ANY books, any bookstore, any bookseller I urge you to spend an afternoon at Island Books “No Man is an Island; Every Book is a World”.
Laura – I love that you are such a great reader…and have great recommendations! Now I have some books to add to my summer reading list. Thank you. And thanks for always stopping by my blog to visit, too! I so appreciate knowing you like reading about my adventures. Sending vugs ~ Lisa
Lisa ~ Vuuugs back atacha! What’s on your bookshelf (or ereader!)? 😉
I have AQ’s book on my list (actually on Kindle) and am adding the other two, especially “The Storied Life.” As you we’ll know, I don’t read fiction too often, but your ‘reviews’ have whetted my appetite! Now all I need is 3 days of rain!
Cheers~
LOL! I have another read I will post about soon…Sue Monk Kidd’s new novel has history AND quilting…I think you’ll be a happy convert! ♥
