….who KNOW me and love me. ♥

On our road-trip Brin and I were only in Maryland two days and one of those was for a client event. We arranged to meet up with Honoré after the event for an early dinner in Columbia at Greystone Grill. ( I had dessert for dinner, YUM-O). She and Gail have known each other for years and Honoré and Brin met for the first time. It was quick but perfect! And she brought me an entire blue Ikea bag filled with books. Not just ANY books but every one of them is about writing. The most awesomest gift ever! Here they are ready to be sorted and added to my bookshelves. Thank you so much dear Honoré!

Not long after we arrived home from our road-trip I received an unexpected package from Kathy. Hmmmmm….what could it be? A lovely Easter card received in May, with a note wishing me and Jeff a belated Merry Christmas and a book of course!

And inside an extra fun gift: friendship bracelets! Kathy wrote they are to remind us,

1) I await anxiously to see your art 2) we can pretend to be in middle school anytime we want.

Thank you sweet Kathy—the entire package made me smile big at your creative thoughtfulness and playfulness. And Jeff and I have both worn our bracelets since we received them.

I am honored to share this space with you my friends…and connect over the miles as though there were no distance at all. Much love, and of course vuuuuugs! ♥

Amelia

What a page turner! I read it in one day…yesterday! I actually took a day off and practiced extreme self-care! This first novel has a gripping plot, well developed characters and keeps you in suspense until the very end. Slipped between the covers are deep issues of single parenting with a full time career; bullying; teen peer pressure; teen suicide. But you’ll have to crack it open to get the whole story!
How’d you make memories yesterday? Or whom did you remember?

Table #7

Table #7

2013 is the year! Finally! On Saturday, May 11th, my mother and I traveled to Indian Head to join Tammy at the Annual Mother/Daughter Tea at her church. I have been trying to get there for years. While our daughters weren’t there, we were able to make over Darren’s. My niece Niki is a walking hug; and the addition of her Vanna and friend, Paulette, made our table perfect. And at a neighboring table, my niece, Pam, and her Cheyenne, welcomed her sister and mother. The female energy in the room was so powerful. So, why did we allow men to run the world again?

The theme was Heirlooms & Lace

The theme was Heirlooms & Lace. This centerpiece is amazing.

I have always been so focused on the mother/daughter part of the gathering that I missed the fact that this was a TEA PARTY! Oh my…

...centerpiece magic...

Is anything better than mismatched teacups?

I’ve been obsessing a bit on the domestic arts lately. Maybe I knew I would see this table.

Mom and I zipped around town before the tea. This shot captures my childhood. I spent many hours on the Green…from firework displays to Halloween costume parades while in elementary school to quiet times sitting on the fountain (where did the rocks come from?) during a solitary bike ride…thanks for letting me drive up, Mom.

Next time, the adventure continues with the other women in my family!

Yep…I’m still here! While winding up activities started yesterday…which was not only National Scrapbook Day but also National Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you!), I stopped and sat my posterior down to write! Finally! We chose TriVista as our blog title to emphasize the 3 characters, words, lives reflected here. As I read through what my Dear Friends have added over the last month and delight in their words and imagery, I regret that my view is missing. My apologies. After all, the triangle is one of our most esthetic yet strongest structures. So in typical random fashion…

Beautification Project

Beautification Project

These 2 bushes were all that remained alive at our entrance. Action was required. Kate, The Littles and Grammy headed to Lowe’s for new plantings! We spent a too-perfect Sunday digging, raking and giggling. I’ll add a picture as the area fills in.

Heartfelt gift from our Consortium family

A heartfelt gift from our Consortium family

Each year during April’s Autism Awareness Month, Autism Delaware and the Sussex Consortium offer a First Responders workshop focused on understanding/serving our folks and others with verbal communication/neurological differences. The 2013 session was in Jonathan’s memory; Jim + I were asked to provide the “human” side of the information. Well, Jim wasn’t quite “ready for Primetime,” as he said, so I put on my public speaking face and sallied forth. I spoke first. I did well…Jonny’s big smile behind me on the projection screen, hitting my points, mixing humor throughout. But to my surprise, as the day progressed, the autism experts kept referring to Jon’s experiences and deferring to me for comment. That old knot in the stomach came and went…tearing up only occasionally. Then as the day drew to an end, Pam Graves…who started out as Jon’s para when he was about 6 years old and ended as his teacher/transition coach for years 14-21…stepped forward and began to speak in a shaking voice. “You know, we lost Jonathan last year…”  She presented me with the gift above. Pam hopes to place it deep in the sand at the spot where Jim spread his ashes. The group had come together to literally solidify how much they loved Jonathan and love us. I was taken aback at first…despite its beauty, this felt like a grave marker. But, the signs are everywhere. Laura’s sky-reaching release of Mom, the Marina Day hat (epic) story and, of course, the timing. We are entering the rapids of our first year without Bubba. On May 7th, he was near death when he entered the hospital for the first time. We thank the heavens that we have Loved Ones in the raft, paddles at the ready. And, Jonny’s hand on our shoulders yet again.

This smile fills me up.

This smile fills me up.

Let me present Healthy Man! While this super-hero is sitting instead of digging the holes for our plantings, he is cancer-free and more himself than he has been in 2 years. Maybe longer. Surgical recovery was painful + demanding; it was particularly hard given Jim had never been through any of the hospital stay/home care scenario. But, slow and steady wins the race has been our life together and will continue to be. I’m just thrilled at the prospect of what our future holds…starting with a trip to Idaho in September where I will meet his NASBLA family after 16 years! Yee-ha.

Excellent first novel! Page turner! It was a challenge for me to fully visualize the silo and I can't wait to see what Ridley Scott does with this book as a movie. Two thumbs up!

Marissa is Marina Day’s lifelong friend: M&Ms. A few days before Marina’s transition Marissa asked Marina to send her a sign but couldn’t settle on anything specific. Marina assured her, “You’ll know”. Marissa told this story at Saturday’s lunch to a tent full of in drawn breaths and gaping incredulous jaws. My body experienced a sensation that went beyond chills into an explosion of tingles accompanied by those flickers of light at the back of your vision—perhaps a tickle of knowing. Why would I be surprised by this story—of course Marina would send a Marina-sized-sign!

Here are Marissa’s words as she later shared on Marina’s Lovefest Facebook group for everyone to experience:

“Trey and Nick’s mom found this (purple) hat in the bedroom of a little girl that she is a nanny for. She asked the 3 year old where she got it- and she didn’t have an answer. Mrs. P took the hat downstairs to ask the mother where the hat came from and she responded, “I have no idea, I’ve never seen that hat before”. At this point Mrs. P asked if she could keep the hat and took it home with her where she placed it in front of an angel figurine and sent this picture to me and her sons. At the time that I received the picture I happened to be talking to my roommate about Marina. Marina had promised me that though I couldn’t think of a specific sign she could send me that I would ‘know’ without a doubt when she did send me a sign. Hence, the story of the Marina Day hat.”

Dying To Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True HealingDying To Be Me: My Journey from Cancer, to Near Death, to True Healing by Anita Moorjani

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Amazing account of healing and transformation. I totally agree with Anita’s message that we are all one, and to let go of fear to heal the world. Highly, highly recommended. If you’re a Wayne Dyer fan it’s a must read!
